Funny how, in the space of five days, we went from watching open, expansive, free-flowing football (in the 3-0 home win over Chivas USA), to a match so turgid and fragmented that it may well have tested the resolve of even the most ardent fan of the game.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Heading to a team which had lost eight games in a row, it was the Colorado Rapids who emerged defeated as the New England Revolution hurled the monkey off their back with a 3-0 victory at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday night.

Two second-half goals – just three minutes apart – by Lee Nguyen and Kelyn Rowe put New England in the most comfortable position they have enjoyed in over two months.

Those who came out to honor club legend Pablo Mastroeni on Friday night were rewarded with a treat. Not only did they get to share a special evening with one of the club’s most loyal servants, but they then witnessed three cracking goals as the Rapids players applied the icing to the Mastroeni celebratory cake with a 3-0 win over Chivas USA.
