Colorado Rapids U.S. Open Cup results from 1996-2012
In 2012 the U.S. Soccer Federation included all Division I, II, and III professional clubs in the U.S. Open Cup proper for the first time ever. The Division I field included all 16 U.S.-based Major League Soccer teams, which was the first time since 2006 that all Division I teams took part in the nation's oldest soccer tournament.
For the Colorado Rapids, 2012 was the club's first time back in the tournament since 2007. Over the previous four years, the Rapids had failed to advance past the Open Cup Qualifying rounds.

The Rovers, making their Open Cup debut and representing first-time entry U.S. Specialty Sports Association - the lowest level in the 68 team national tournament - fell to the Georgia Revolution 5-3 on penalty kicks Tuesday night at Shea Stadium in Highlands Ranch after the teams played to a 1-1 tie through overtime.
Former Rapids defender Ritchie Kotschau leads Colorado Rovers in US Open Cup
It's been 15 years since Ritchie Kotschau lifted the U.S. Open Cup trophy when he helped the Chicago Fire to their first title in October of 1998.
It's been seven years since he last played in the oldest soccer tournament in the United States, that coming on August 2, 2006 when he helped the Colorado Rapids eliminate Real Salt Lake with a 1-0 win in the Fourth Round of the tournament.
U.S. Soccer announces details and dates of 2013 U.S. Open Cup
The 100th edition of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup will be the biggest yet.
On Tuesday, U.S. Soccer announced that the 2013 U.S. Open Cup will include 68 team - the most in the modern era of the tournamant.
For the second-consecutive year all U.S. based Division I, II and III teams will participate in the tournament proper: 16 from Major League Soccer, six from the North American Soccer League and 12 from USL PRO.
Tight hamstring sidelined Moor for Open Cup match
Commerce City, Colo. - Center back and acting team captain Drew Moor was a late scratch from the trip to Kansas City for the fourth round U.S. Open Cup match against Sporting KC, in which the home eliminated the Rapids with a 2-0 win on Tuesday night.
After being an unused substitute in Colorado's 3-1 third round win in Tampa, Florida over the Rowdies, Moor was itching to play on Tuesday at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park. However, his left hamstring tightened up during Monday's workout and the coaching staff decided against taking the ironman defender as a precaution.

It’s very frustrating because the goals we seem to be conceding against (Sporting KC) have been our fault. KANSAS CITY, Kan. --Teal Bunbury continued his hot streak against the Colorado Rapids, helping Sporting Kansas City reach the quarterfinals of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup.
Bunbury’s 79th-minute goal on Tuesday night, off a headed assist from C.J. Sapong, iced Sporting’s 2-0 win and propelled them into a June 26 home matchup against the Dayton Dutch Lions of USL Pro. Dayton advanced by beating the PDL’s Michigan Bucks 2-1 earlier Tuesday.
