Youth Soccer Update: Rogers joins U.S. U-20s
RAPIDS U-14 ACADEMY TEAM PREPARING FOR REGIONALS: The Colorado Rapids U-14 Boys Academy team will participate in Regionals, part of the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series, after having won the Colorado State Cup on May 21. They will travel to Phoenix to take on the top teams in their age group from the Far West Region for the Regional Championships. The competition will begin on June 18 with a round robin tournament and run through the final on June 24, at the Reach 11 Sports Complex.
JAMES ROGERS CALLED UP TO U-20 MEN’S NATIONAL TEAM: James Rogers, who played for the Rapids Development Academy teams from 2009-2011, has been called up to the U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team by head coach Tab Ramos for a five-day training camp in Houston, Texas, followed by international games against Uruguay and Chile. Rogers is about to begin his second season at the University of New Mexico, after he started 19 of 22 matches and scored three goals in his freshman year.

DILLON SERNA A CONSTANT IN U.S. U-18 LINEUP IN PORTUGAL TOURNAMENT: Rapids Academy midfielder Dillon Serna of Brighton played every minute for the U.S. Under-18 Men’s National Team as they competed in the Lisbon International Tournament held from May 23-26 in Portugal. The U-18s went 0-2-1 against Poland, Slovakia and host Portugal, falling 1-0 to Portugal on the final day. The squad also drew 1-1 in a friendly against Sporting Lisbon on May 19 before kicking off the tournament. For recaps on the games, click here.
COLORADO RAPIDS DEVELOPMENT CAMP BEGINS JUNE 4: The first session of the Colorado Rapids Development Camp will begin June 4, running through June 7, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. The session is still open for registration and interested participants can find more information and the registration page by clicking here. The Development Camps offer instruction to players, grouped by age and ability, with the emphasis on individual player development, interaction, and coaching instruction by Rapids Academy Coaches and special appearances by Rapids first team players.
RAPIDS UNDER-18 SQUAD SEEKS PLAYOFF BERTH: The Colorado Rapids Under-18 Academy team has two remaining games in the 2011-12 U.S. Soccer Development Academy season, taking on St. Louis Scott Gallagher Missouri on June 2 and St. Louis Scott Gallagher Metro on June 5. If the season ended today, the Rapids would qualify for the U.S. Soccer Development Academy 2012 Finals Week, a playoff tournament in Houston from July 16-23 that features the top two teams from each conference. RAPIDS U-16 TEAM CLOSES REGULAR SEASON THIS WEEKEND: The Colorado Rapids Under-16 Academy team will play their final two matches of the 2011-12 season this weekend against St. Louis Scott Gallagher Missouri on June 2 and St. Louis Scott Gallagher Metro three days later. The squad is 7-8-4 in the conference and will participate in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Showcase that will also take place in Houston from July 16-23. The Showcase is an exhibition tournament for teams that did not qualify for Finals Week to gain experience and be seen by college recruiters.
