Casey Sets New Rapids Goalscoring Record

COMMERCE CITY CO - With his 15th goal of the 2009 season which he scored on Wednesday night vs. the San Jose Earthquakes Rapids striker Conor Casey etched his name into the club's record books.
With his stoppage time penalty kick Casey propelled himself past Rapids legend John Spencer to sit solely atop the Colorado Rapids leaderboard for goals scored in a single regular season.
Spencer had previously held the record with 14 goals scored in a season a feat he accomplished twice in two separate years.
Casey continues also to lead MLS in goals scored and is the frontrunner for the league's Golden Boot Award presented annually to Major League Soccer's leading scorer as he currently sits 2 strikes clear of the next player on the list.
The club's official team blog The Undercurrent previewed Casey's chance of breaking the record this week as well as listed the top 5 scorers by season in club history. Read more on this story on The Undercurrent by clicking here.
