McManus Wins MLS Goal of the Week Honors

COMMERCE CITY CO (May 28 2008) - Rapids striker Tom McManus’ incredible 40-yard strike Saturday night against Chivas USA was voted by MLS fans as the Sierra Mist Major League Soccer Goal of the Week for Week 9 it was revealed today.
This marks the first time in 2008 that a Rapids player has earned Goal of the Week honors with the last Colorado winner being Herculez Gomez in Week 2 of the 2007 season.

McManus’ 80th minute goal vs. the Goats from California his second of the season brought Rapids fans at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park out of their seats in memorable fashion as his right-footed blast sailed down the field and into the upper corner of the Chivas goal past a helpless Brad Guzan.

Runners-up for this week’s award included Los Angeles’ David Beckham Kansas City’s Claudio Lopez Chivas USA’s Jorge Flores and FC Dallas’ Dominic Oduuro.
