Rapids Fall to Dallas 4-1 at Pizza Hut Park

FRISCO Texas (Saturday July 29 2006) – The Colorado Rapids failed to win on the road as they fell 4-1 to FC Dallas at Pizza Hut Park today.

The Rapids conceded the game’s first goal in the eighth minute off of a corner. Ramon Nunez hit the corner to the far post where Abe Thompson headed the ball back across the goal to Bobby Rhine who put the ball in with his head.

Less than a minute later Nicolas Hernandez had a shot saved off the Dallas goal line. Jacob Peterson had a semi-breakaway that was saved by Dario Sala. The rebound came to Hernandez who was caught off guard as he ran forward and was unable to get full power on his shot.

Kyle Beckerman got the Rapids on the board and evened things up in the 34th minute. A Terry Cooke corner kick was punched out by Sala straight to Beckerman. The Maryland native took one touch to control the ball and then took a shot that passed through multiple defenders during its 17-yard journey into the goal.

Joe Cannon stuffed a shot by Chris Gbandi in the 40th minute and turned away a Kenny Cooper opportunity in the 45th minute to keep the score level at ones going into halftime.

Nunez put Dallas back on top in the 71st minute. A Cannon save went right to the winger who put the ball just out of the reach of the 2006 All-Star keeper.

Nunez scored again three minutes later with a wicked curving free kick from about 25 yards out.

Pressing to get back in the game the Rapids had a series of chances that culminated in a ball being cleared off the Dallas goal line for the second time in the game.

Cooper finished the scoring with a breakaway in second half stoppage time.

Before breaking for the MLS All-Star game in Chicago next weekend Colorado will enter the U.S. Open Cup and travel to Rice Eccles Stadium where they will face fellow MLS side Real Salt Lake in a 7 p.m. (MDT) kickoff.

The Rapids will also play Real Salt Lake in their next MLS game on Wednesday August 9 at 7:30 p.m. (MDT) at INVESCO Field at Mile High. The game will feature festivities surrounding the Rapids' annual Celtic Heritage Night starting at 5:30 outside the stadium.
