The Rapids will kick off the first game of the 12th Major League Soccer season on Saturday April 7th 2007 at 1:30pm (MT) when they host four-time MLS Champion D.C. United at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in a game that will be broadcast live nationwide on ABC.
Dick’s Sporting Goods Park the Rapids’ new home is a state-of-the-art 18000-seat stadium that anchors a 24-field fully-lit professional soccer complex that is considered the biggest and most state-of-the-art professional stadium and field complex in the world.
The Colorado Rapids’ complete 2007 MLS schedule will be released in the coming months.
This event will mark the second time in league history that the Rapids have opened a season with a home game as well as the first-ever Major League Soccer season opener hosted by Colorado. The last time the Rapids opened a season with a home game was in 2003 when they hosted the now-defunct San Jose Earthquakes.
The national television appearance on ABC is also a second in Rapids history. Colorado met DC United in the 1997 MLS Cup which was also broadcast on ABC.
Last season the Rapids defeated United 2-1 in Denver and drew the Supporters Shield winners 1-1 in the nation’s capital.
