Rapids Spring Training Report From Ft. Lauderdale Florida

Colorado Rapids Media Relations - The Colorado Rapids have completed their first leg of Spring Training in South America and are entering the 2nd phase of the club's 2005 preseason.

The Rapids landed in Ft. Lauderdale Florida yesterday from Ecuador where they went 0-1-1 in the 2 matches they played vs. the Ecuadorian club Emelec. The Rapids had focused primarily on conditioning and fitness daily training sessions in the city of Guayaquil Ecuador which they had made their home base since February 9.

The Black & Blue will stay in Florida until Monday Feb. 28 and hold training sessions and scrimmages every day until returning to Denver for one week. Leg 3 of the preseason will commence on March 8 when the team departs for a 3-city American exhibition tour vs. other MLS clubs.

NEXT GAME (TENTATIVE AND SUBJECT TO CHANGE): Friday February 25 2005 Kickoff 4:00 p.m. Intersquad Scrimmage.

Saturday February 26 2005 10:00 a.m. GAME vs. Florida International University at Sunrise Hilton Field Ft. Lauderdale.

Sunday February 27 2005 - 10:00 a.m. GAME vs. FC Dornach of Switzerland at Sunrise Hilton Field.

LAST GAME: Rapids 1 vs. Emelec 2 in Babahoyo Ecuador. (Match Report).


GAME vs. HAITI CANCELED: The Colorado Rapids' match against the Haitian National Team scheduled to be played on Sunday February 27th at Lockhart Stadium has been canceled due to changes in the Haitian National Team schedule. The Rapids will be holding two scrimmages at the Sunrise Hilton training facility in Fort Lauderdale instead.

TIME TO PLAY: Despite the late notice from the Haitian National Team scheduling conflict that affected this weekend’s Rapids match the Colorado Rapids have been able to secure two scrimmages for the time they will be in Fort Lauderdale Florida:

-Friday February 25 2005 - 4:00 p.m. Intersquad Scrimmage at Sunrise Hilton Field.

-Saturday February 26 2005 - 10:00 a.m. GAME vs. FIU at Sunrise Hilton Field.

Sunday February 27 2005 - 10:00 a.m. GAME vs. FC Dornach of Switzerland at Sunrise Hilton Field.

LEAVING LAS VEGAS: The Rapids' match vs. Real Salt Lake tentatively scheduled for Saturday March 19th in Las Vegas will change location. The promoters of the match are looking at other cities to host the game and the finalized preseason schedule will be released by Monday February 28th.

WITH THE TEAM IN LEG TWO: Two of the players looking to land a senior international spot with the Rapids that joined the team in South America have continued with the Black and Blue on the Fort Lauderdale trip. Englishman Terry Cooke and Uruguayan Martin Morales arrived last night with the team at the Sunrise Hilton Hotel. Both of them are scheduled to continue with the team through the following weeks of training.
