Rapids Weekly Team Update

COMMERCE CITY CO (10/2/07) - After two straight road games played on artificial surfaces the Rapids return to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park and the nicest pitch in the league as they host Toronto FC for the first time ever in Colorado.

In their last match the Rapids held New England one MLS’ most potent offenses scoreless for 88 minutes. Unfortunately for Colorado Khano Smith latched onto a Shalrie Joseph pass two minutes from time and slotted it past Bouna Coundoul to give the Revs their first win of the year against the Rapids.

This Sunday the Rapids will look to avenge the 2-1 loss they suffered to Toronto in early June at BMO Field and defeat the Canadians to pick up a much-needed victory as well as a pivotal three points that will help to propel them towards the 8th and final MLS playoff spot.
Fans will also have the exclusive opportunity to stick around inside the stadium after the first team match to watch their MLS Reserve Division-leading Rapids Reserves take on the Toronto FC Reserves as part of Sunday's doubleheader; the second game of the evening will kick off at approximately 8:30pm.

Head Coach Fernando Clavijo on the effort against New England:
"I thought our effort was tremendous. It was a tale of two halves; when Tony Sanneh was playing we were winning the midfield and we created chances. When he left the game with an injury we lost the midfield and lost the ball in transition many times. That gave New England a chance to push forward. Overall it was a good effort. It wasn’t what they did to score the goal it was what we didn’t do. We gave up the ball and it unfortunately cost us the game."
Clavijo on preparing for Sunday’s game vs. Toront
"The most important thing to work on is the mental part of the game. The team was pretty down and devastated about Saturday’s loss. We are trying to bring the team back to the situation we face. We have two more home games and we believe we still have a good chance of making the playoffs. We have an opportunity to win this home game on Sunday. It is a must-win situation for us against Toronto."
Sunday's Game a Doubleheader: The Rapids Reserves game against the Toronto FC Reserves originally scheduled for Oct. 8 has been moved.
