Real Madrid coach wants Rapids to lift Cup

Having received best wishes from English Premier League sides Arsenal (Arsene Wenger) and Wolverhampton (Marcus Hahnemann), on Saturday morning the Colorado Rapids received another gesture of support - this time from Spain's La Liga.

Former Rapids defender Aitor Karanka was hired this year by Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho to be his right-hand man at the Spanish super club, Real Madrid.

"From la Liga in Spain I will be following this great championship game closely and I wish the Rapids the best of luck," Karanka told via email. "I can already see Pablo (Mastroeni) lifting the Cup."

Mastroeni and Karanka were teammates with the Rapids in 2006, and lead Colorado past Dallas in the Conference Semifinals.

"We established a good friendship that still exists today," Mastroeni told Spanish daily newspaper Marca. "I hope on Sunday he can follow our game and we can win the final. I'm sure he'd be very happy because he has special feelings for the Rapids."

Karanka will be in charge of Madrid tonight when they host his former club, Atletico Bilboa, as Mourinho is suspended following his ejection in the last game against Real Murcia.
