COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Wednesday, July 13, 2011) – Xcel Energy and the Colorado Rapids will give fans the chance to make a “Big Save” for energy efficiency at the upcoming match on Wednesday, July 20 match against New York Red Bulls at 7:30 p.m. at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. The event, centered on the theme of energy conservation, will give fans the chance to take part in “The Big Save,” a state-wide initiative recently launched by Xcel Energy to help consumers take action to save energy in their homes.
To join The Big Save, customers take a pledge to reduce their energy use by changing five ways they use energy at home. Rapids fans can take the pledge at the Xcel Energy booth at the game plus receive take-home tips and information about saving energy. Additionally, three lucky fans that make the pledge at Wednesday’s Rapids game will be chosen at random to participate in a halftime contest on the field with the Rapids mascots.
“The Big Save is designed to help our customers feel committed and empowered to be part of something bigger by joining others in Colorado who have taken the pledge,” said Xcel Energy Program Manager, Chris Dierker. “The idea is that the bigger the effort, the greater the savings in energy, money and the environment.”
