17th annual 4thFest returns on Wednesday, July 4

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Monday, May 14, 2012) – The Colorado Rapids and Commerce City announced today details for the 17th annual 4thFest, an Independence Day Celebration at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park presented by Westerra Credit Union. The 4thFest will be a community festival with live music, family activities, and one of the largest fireworks displays in the state of Colorado, which will follow the Rapids match against Vancouver Whitecaps FC, presented by HealthONE.

A special 4thFest Family Activity Zone will be available, free of charge, starting at 5:00 p.m. on July 4 outside the south end of Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. The area will include interactive activities, entertainers like the Salida Circus, a zip line, climbing wall, face painting, arts and crafts, and inflatables. For adults 21 years of age and older, there will be a Heineken Beer Garden, the Coors Light Tailgate, and the Supporters tailgate, as well as a mechanical bull.

The match between the Rapids and Whitecaps, presented by HealthONE, kicks off at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4. Live music from That Eighties Band will start at approximately 8:15 p.m. and will continue up to the start of the fireworks display. 4thFest is a joint effort between the Rapids and Commerce City.

For each of the team’s past 16 seasons, the Rapids have played an Independence Day match, owning a 12-2-2 record. Eight of those games have ended in dramatic fashion, with the game-winning goal coming in the 69th minute or later.
