Women's Recap: Rapids 1, Pali Blues 2

Denver, CO – The Colorado Rapids Women outshot the Pali Blues in Denver Sunday afternoon but couldn’t capitalize on their chances. Pali took advantage of their set pieces to score twice in the first half and held on for the 2-1 win at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.

The Blues earned a corner in the 13th minute of the match and center back Sasha Andrews climbed highest and headed the ball in to give the Blues the early lead. In the 27th minute, Andrews got her's and Pali’s second goal of the game. It was another corner, whipped in by Sarah Killion, that Andrews tapped in at the back post. Pali held the two-goal lead into the halftime interval.

The Rapids Women came out fired up in the second half and had a spell of chances. After missing a penalty, the Rapids were finally rewarded for their hard work, when midfielder Chloe Roberts headed in Kristen Hamilton’s cross to make it 2-1 in the 88th minute.

Colorado heaped on the pressure in the last few minutes with midfielder Rebekah Patrick having the best chance to equalize, but her shot was saved by Pali keeper Anna Picarelli. The Rapids Women outshot the Pali Blues 8 shots to 1 in the second half, but couldn’t find the equalizer.

The Rapids Ladies will look to snap their current six-game winless streak on Tuesday, June 25 when they host the Bay Area Breeze at Dick's Sporting Goods Park (6 p.m. MT, TICKETS).
