Rapids announce ticket information for 4th round U.S. Open Cup match

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Wednesday, May 21, 2014) – The Colorado Rapids announced on Wednesday the dates and ticket information for both potential Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup 4th round matchups, facing either the Tampa Bay Rowdies of the NASL on Tuesday, June 10, or Orlando City SC on Tuesday, June 17. Either match would take place at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, with a kickoff time of 7 p.m. MT.

Special ticket pricing is in place for the match, with general admission seating on the West side of the stadium for $20 for adults and $15 for children, and in the South and East stands for $15 adults/$10 children. Rapids Season Ticket Holders, partial plan holders, and groups of 10 or more will also receive a 50% discount on all tickets. Fans can purchase tickets by clicking here or by calling 303-825-GOAL.

“We’re thrilled to finally host another U.S. Open Cup match here at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, as it’s been seven years since we’ve had a home game in the tournament,” said Rapids President Tim Hinchey. “This is a great opportunity for our club and our fans to participate in the historic tournament, and we’ll be doing everything we can to win the Cup.”

The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, an annual knock-out tournament featuring soccer teams from all levels of American soccer (from amateur through MLS), is in its 101st year, making it the oldest continuously-running soccer competition in the United States. The Rapids last hosted a match on July 10, 2007, topping the California Victory 3-1 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.

Tampa Bay and Orlando square off on Wednesday, May 28 to determine which team will advance to face the Rapids. The Rowdies, of the second-tier North American Soccer League (NASL), feature former Rapids players in goalkeeper Matt Pickens and defender Anthony Wallace. Orlando City plays in the third-tier USL-Pro, and the club is set to become the newest MLS franchise, joining the league for the 2015 season. Orlando City knocked the Rapids out of the tournament in 2013 with a 3-1 win in Florida.

The Rapids will host three straight league matches at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, facing Montreal on May 24, Houston on June 1, and Chicago on June 4, before traveling to face FC Dallas on June 7. Should Colorado win its 4th round U.S. Open Cup match, the 5th round will be played on June 24 or 25.
