Eleven years after playing for Colorado Springs Blizzard in the USL Premier Development League, central defender Bobby Burling will return to the Centennial State after being selected by the Rapids in Wednesday's MLS Waiver Draft.
Born in Clear Lake City, Texas, Burling is a 2003 graduate of Lewis-Palmer High School in Monument, Colorado. The 30-year-old once featured for the Colorado Rapids Reserves, in a match against Houston Dynamo, before rejoining Chivas USA during the 2012 season.
Burling was drafted by the LA Galaxy in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft out of Loyola Marymount University, before eventually signing with Chivas USA three months later where he made 23 appearances from 2007-09. He went on to play with the San Jose Earthquakes before being picked in the 2011 MLS Expansion Draft by Montreal.
In all, six foot five inch Burling has played in 119 MLS games over eight seasons, and his closing in on 10,000 minutes in the league. He made 22 appearances (20 starts) during the 2014 season with Chivas USA. His campaign got off to a bright start, as he netted only his second career goal on the opening weekend of the season in a 3-2 home win over Chicago Fire.
