Rapids Academy product Andrew Cordes named to U.S. Under-14 Camp

U.S. Under-14 Boy’s National Team head coach Clint Peay named Colorado Rapids Academy goalkeeper Andrew Cordes to the U-14 BNT roster last week for a domestic training camp in Chula Vista, California from November 11-18.

“This camp is a chance to bring in a bunch of guys together to see where they are for the next cycle,” Peay said. “The main goal of the camp is to use it as another evaluation to see where they are after a year. We’ll get the chance to see how they’ve progressed and it gives coach Shaun Tsakiris, who will take them at the U-16 level, an opportunity to come in and see a big pool of guys all in one place.”

During the camp, the U-14 BNT (birth year 2003) will play a total of five games, including one intra-squad match, games against U.S. Soccer Development Academy clubs San Diego Surf (a mix of birth year 2001-2003) and Albion SC U-17 (birth year 2001), and two matches against Club Tijuana, who will field a combination of U-16’s (birth year 2002) and U-15’s (birth year 2003).

“Andrew has been with the Academy from the start of his young soccer career and I could not be more excited for him,” said Rapids goalkeeping coach, Chris Sharpe. “He’s a very confident young goalkeeper, with great size and presence. I’m confident that Andrew has the capabilities of becoming a staple at the national level.”

This will mark Cordes’ third U-14 BNT call-up after being selected by head coach Clint Peay to the previous two national team camps in Carson, California (February 18-25, 2017 and November 13-20, 2016).
