Colorado Rapids Soccer Club announced today the acquisition of midfielder Jack Price from English club Wolverhampton Wanderers, signing him to a contract using Targeted Allocation Money. Price will occupy an international roster spot and will be added to the Rapids’ roster upon receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P-1 Visa.
“We are delighted to welcome Jack to Colorado,” said Rapids Sporting Director and Interim General Manager, Pádraig Smith. “Currently in the prime of his career, his vision, passing range and tactical awareness will be a good fit for our system. We believe that Jack will be a key influencer in our midfield for many years to come.”
Price joins the Rapids after spending the last 16 years in the Wolverhampton Wanderers organization. Originally joining Wolves’ academy in 2001, Price would sign his first professional contract on March 11, 2011.
The 25-year-old central midfielder appeared in nine contests for Wolverhampton across all competitions this season. He went the distance in all four matches of the Carabao Cup, including a 2-0 win over Southampton in the second round, as well as the 4-1 defeat in penalty-kicks against Manchester City in the fourth round.
Last season, he would play in 19 contests (17 starts), including seven consecutive starts from December 12 to January 31. During the 2015-16 campaign, Price would finish runner-up for the Supporters’ Player of the Season Award after logging a career-high 1,856 minutes in 24 contests (20 starts).
During his rookie campaign in 2013-14, Price tallied three assists in 19 contests, while helping Wolves hoist the League One title and promotion to the EFL Championship along the way. The following season, Price would appear in 24 games, as well as a pair of brief stints in League One with Yeovil Town and Leyton Orient.
In all, Price appeared in 162 games across all national leagues, including 71 matches in the EFL Championship and 37 in League One. Price also played in five FA Cup contests, including a 2-0 loss against Chelsea in the fifth round of the 2016-17 edition.
“First and foremost, I want to thank Wolverhampton for everything they have done for me, both as a player and a person over the last 16 years,” said Price. “But after my conversations with Pádraig and Coach Hudson, I was extremely impressed with the Rapids organization and look forward to helping this team turn its vision for the future in to a reality. I can’t wait to get started.”
