Headline of the Day | Rojo clinches dramatic victory to send Argentina through

Following an opening draw with Iceland and a 3-0 defeat to Croatia, the pressure on Argentina clear but they remained alive to qualify for the knockout stages ahead of their third match. Goals from captain Lionel Messi and a late strike from Marcos Rojo proved to be enough to defeat Nigeria 2-1 and send the Argentina through to the knockout round where they'll face France on Saturday.

"It was an amazing way to qualify," Messi said. "It took a lot from us but we didn't deserve to go out in the first round, so we're all very happy. We knew we were going to win, but we hadn't expected it to be as tough as it was."

The other match in Group D saw Croatia beat Iceland 2-1 thanks to goals from Milan Badelj and Ivan Perišić. Thanks to the win, it was the first time the Croatians have won a FIFA World Cup group. They will now face Denmark in the Round of 16 on Sunday.

Earlier in the day, France finished as Group C winners with a decisive 0-0 draw against Denmark and Peru made a proud exit with a 2-0 win over Australia that ended the Aussies slim qualification hopes.
