COMMERCE CITY CO (ColoradoRapids.com) - On Saturday April 7th just outside Gate D of Dick's Sporting Goods Park a special ceremony was held just before the stadium opened to the public for the first time.
Rapids Managing Director Jeff Plush was joined by the owner of Kroenke Sports Enterprises Stan Kroenke MLS Commissioner Don Garber and the Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Dick's Sporting Goods Jeff Hennion for a once-in-a-lifetime photo opportunity.
These 4 stepped up to cut the ceremonial ribbon that officially opened Dick's Sporting Goods Park for the first time.
Once the ribbon was cut it opened an avenue for another unique opportunity: the first-ever fans to officially get their tickets scanned for a public event at Dick's Sporting Goods Park!
The honor fell to Jim Julie JuJu and Katja Behrens who have been season ticket holders for the Colorado Rapids since the club's inception in 1996.
"We all had a wonderful time and were thrilled to be part of the festivities and the grand opening of Dick's Sporting Goods Park said the family in a joint statement.
"It is a gorgeous new stadium and we're very impressed with all elements - the team play the Rapids front office staff the facilities and everything. We especially love the boot room! Anyway thanks again for treating us so well. We're planning on being season ticket holders for at least another 12 years!"
The Colorado Rapids extend a special congratulations to the Behrens family on being the first-ever fans to officially set foot into Dick's Sporting Goods Park!
