The Rapids reached the Western Conference Championship after defeating FC Dallas in the home-and-home Conference Semifinal series. Both teams played one of the most dramatic games in the history of MLS at Pizza Hut Park on Saturday October 29th after tying 0-0 in Denver the week prior.
After finishing regulation time tied at one goal per team the Black & Blue came from behind in extra time to once again tie the match 2-2 and send it to a penalty kicks decision. Fernando Clavijo’s side advanced to the Western Conference Championship after converting all five penalty kicks with goalkeeper Joe Cannon saving the final attempt by FC Dallas.
The LA Galaxy reached this Conference Championship after defeating the San Jose Earthquakes on a 4-2 aggregate score in the other semifinal series.
