Oxnard, Calif. (Sunday, February 5, 2012) – The Colorado Rapids played to a 0-0 draw with the Ventura County Fusion on Sunday morning at Oxnard College in the Rapids’ first preseason scrimmage. Colorado fielded a team comprised mostly of younger players and trialists on the team’s second day of a week-long training stint in California.
Both teams traded chances in the first half, with the best opportunities falling to Rapids forward Quincy Amarikwa, who had a header in the 27th minute go just over and a low shot flash just wide five minutes later. Goalkeeper Steward Ceus made one big stop to keep the game scoreless early in the first half, and his replacement at the half, Ian Joyce, stopped a Fusion player on a breakaway in the best chance of the second session.
