Commerce City, Colo. - After two days of trying to impress the Colorado Rapids Academy and professional team coaching staff, five field players and one goalkeeper stood out among over 500 particants and were selected as the winners of the first-ever Sueño MLS competition held in Colorado.
Daniel Ontiveros, Erik Barragan, Brian Loaiza, Brayan Arreola, Juan Hernandez, and Miguel Jaime sat among the 30 finalists on the turf field at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Sunday afternoon in front of the Univision Network cameras as Rapids head coach Oscar Pareja called out their names live on the popular weekly Spanish-language sports show, República Deportiva, alongside the two of the show's personalities, Felix Fernandez and Alba Galindo.
The five field players will compete in the National Finals of Sueño MLS 2013– Presented by Allstate, from May 9-12 at The Home Depot Center in Los Angeles against the 10 finalists from the tryouts held in Washington D.C. and LA. In addition, at least one of the players will be invited to train with the Rapids Academy team.
As the goalkeeper finalist, Ontiveros will compete in the finals against two goalkeepers - one from the DC and one from the LA tryouts - for the Allstate “Good Hands®” top goalkeeper award and the opportunity to train with an MLS team as well as be mentored by Mexican goalkeeping legend and Republica Deportiva co-host, Felix Fernandez
The finals will include training sessions, scrimmages, guest celebrity scouts and an opportunity to meet some of the League’s biggest stars. The Sueño MLS 2013 winner will be crowned on Sunday, May 12, live on República Deportiva.
