The Colorado Rapids Development Academy Under-18 team remain undefeated after the first weekend of matches of the 2013-2014 season of U.S. Soccer Development Academy play.
The U-18s tied the San Antonio Scorpions, 1-1, on Friday and then defeated Lonestar SC 2-0 on Sunday morning.
"I feel like we got off to a bit of a difficult start on Friday. We scored an early goal and I don't think we ever really found the rhythm of the game," Brian Crookham, 18s head coach, told ColoradoRapids.com. "We allowed a team to hang around that we probably shouldn't have and gave up a late penalty that cost us two points. It's certainly something we have to improve on."
Jose Elias put the Rapids up in just the 5th minute after finishing a nice build up play. However, the Rapids were not able to score again and San Antonio found the equalizer in the 78th after a Rapids defender was called for a foul in the box after a push to the back of a Scorpions forward. William Redman converted the penalty kick to tie the match.

In the second match of the weekend, on Sunday against Austin, Texas side Lonestar SC, the Rapids 18s responded, despite missing two key defenders and being forced to play a man down after an early red card.
Quentin Pearson had departed to join the U.S. U-18s National Team and Kortne Ford missed his second straight match while with the Rapids Reserves in Portland.
Just seven minutes into the match, Remington Elias was shown red card for a foul as the last man. However, Colorado did not back down and took the lead in the 27th minute, when Enda O'Neill headed in a corner kick. Having learned from Friday, the Rapids this time held on and right back Jovanni Chavez sealed the game with a goal after a long run down the right flank.
"Our response on Sunday, we had a player ejected for a foul - for us to stay organized and manage that game very well, end up scoring two goals and end up winning the game was a very good response to the disappointment we had on Friday. With all the movement and variation in the lineup, I think Sunday's performance is more of what we expect out of this group."
