Each week we will take a look at where the Colorado Rapids stand in the weekly Power Rankings on national soccer media websites.
Here’s how the week affected the team's standings in national MLS Power Rankings:
Tough to drop them after what was really a strong road performance at JELD-WEN. Even with all the injuries, the Rapids have been relentless, and continue to be one of the toughest outs in the league.
Teams ranked above: Seattle Sounders, Sporting KC, NY Red Bulls, Real Salt Lake.
Colorado was unable to pull off an upset at Jeld-Wen Field on Friday night, but they did put in a valiant performance in their loss to Portland...With four matches left to play this season, the Rapids have a four-point advantage in the race for the fifth and final playoff spot in the West...Luckily for Colorado, there are four inconsistent sides fighting to catch up to them in the standings.
Teams ranked above: LA Galaxy, Sporting KC, NY Red Bulls, Real Salt Lake, Seattle Sounders, Portland Timbers.
A 1-0 loss in Portland was just the Rapids’ second defeat in the second half of the season but it did drop them out of the top three in the Western Conference. A giveaway by Drew Moor led to the goal and Martin Rivero looked rusty in his first start since June.
Teams ranked above: Seattle Sounders, NY Red Bulls.
Pareja’s young men couldn’t quite get the job done in Portland, falling 1-0 on a goal borne of sloppiness in possession along the back. The Rapids get a weekend off before a huge Oct. 5 match against Seattle at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
Teams ranked: San Jose Earthquakes, Portland Timbers, Real Salt Lake, LA Galaxy, NY Red Bulls, Sporting KC, Seattle Sounders.
The Rapids didn't play badly in losing at Portland but still fell closer to the playoff position trap door. They have to wait 15 agonizing days to see how the teams around them fare. By the way, that Oct. 5 match sees them face red-hot Seattle.
Teams ranked above: Portland Timbers, Sporting KC, Montreal Impact, NY Red Bulls, LA Galaxy, Real Salt Lake, Seattle Sounders.
