After a bye weekend, the Colorado Rapids U-16 Development Academy squad returns to action this weekend against local rivals Colorado Rush at 12:30 p.m. MT on Saturday at the Sedalia Polo Fields in Sedalia, Colo. Heading into the match the U-16s are 3-2-5 and in sixth place in 13 team the Frontier Division of the Central Conference (based on points per game).
The last three weeks have been tough for the U-16s, and they will look to rebound from two scoreless draws and two losses in their last four games. On Oct. 25 and 27, the U-16s played back-to-back scoreless draws agaisnt Texans SC Houston and Houston Dynamo.
The U-16s started the season strong, going undefeated in their first eight games until falling 2-1 to Solar Chelsea SC on Nov. 2. They suffered their second loss of the season the following day, dropping a 1-0 result to FC Dallas. Sunday’s game was made particularly difficult when several players were called up to the U-18 squad.
Looking ahead, the Rapids will have this Saturday’s game against Colorado Rush to reverse the momentum in their final six weeks of play, which includes the Winter Showcase and Nike International Friendlies held in Florida, before the winter hiatus. They’ll resume for the second half of the Development Academy season in March 2014.
