The Colorado Rapids once again hold the 11th overall pick in the Draft - the same spot where the club selected the MLS Rookie of the Year, Dillon Powers, in 2013. Powers was the third #11 selection to play for the Rapids, following Tyrone Marshall and Ross Paule back in their days.
While no team - in any sport - has figured out the exact science to selecting productive players in any draft position, the 11th overall pick in Major League Soccer has proven to produce solid pros in general. Players such as Paule, Marshall, Evan Whitfield, Sasha Victorine, Brian Carroll, and Scott Sealy all played at least seven seasons in MLS. More recent #11 selections Roger Espinoza, Jeremy Hall, David Estrada, Will Bruin, and Matt Hedges are also playing key roles on MLS teams (or in Europe, in the case of Espinoza).
Thursdays MLS SuperDraft begins at 10 a.m. MT and will be broadcast live on ESPN News. The Rapids also have two picks in the second round, the 33rd and 35th overall selections.
Here are the players selected #11 overall in the first 18 MLS SuperDrafts (or college drafts, as they was called from 1996-2000). Regular season stats only:
