COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - Colorado Rapids 2 defender Daniel Chacón has been called up to the Costa Rica National Team for the March Concacaf Nations League matches, the club announced today. Los Ticos will face Martinique on the road on March 25 before hosting Panama on March 28 at Costa Rica’s Estadio Nacional.

“We are excited about Dani’s participation in these matches,” said Brian Crookham, Rapids 2 General Manager. “It is an exciting time for Costa Rican soccer as a new generation of talent emerges with their eyes on the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Representing his country on a regular basis is not only an honor, but also a big opportunity in the progression of his career.”

Chacón is entering his second season with Rapids 2 after joining the team in June of last year. The centerback brought with him a wealth of international experience having been a former member of the U-17, U-20 and U-23 Costa Rican national teams. On January 31, 2022, Chacón made his senior international debut in Los Ticos’ 0-0 draw with Mexico in FIFA World Cup Qualifying.

Chacón signed with Rapids 2 after spending the entirety of his career with his hometown club C.S. Cartaginés. Following his participation in the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup, Chacón made his professional debut for C.S. Cartaginés on November 19, 2017, at just 16 years old. He went on to make 98 appearances for the club, scoring four goals.

Immediately after signing with the Rapids last season, Chacón was loaned back to C.S. Cartaginés for the 2022 Liga Promercia Apertura in preparation for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. In March 2022, Chacón started and played 90 minutes as a defensive midfielder in Costa Rica’s 2-0 win over the United States and played the final 33 minutes in their 1-0 victory over Canada, earning the team a spot in the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifying Intercontinental Playoff. Costa Rica went on to secure the final spot in the 2022 FIFA World Cup after earning a 1-0 victory over New Zealand, which saw Chacón play 16 minutes of the final qualifying match.

On November 3, 2022, Chacón received an official call up to the Costa Rica National Team for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Chacón made one appearance for Los Ticos in Qatar during the team’s 1-0 win over Japan.
