COMMERCE CITY, Colo – Rapids 2 midfielder Jonny De La Fuente has been named to the Mexico U-17 Youth National Team for its upcoming training camp in Toluca, Mexico. The camp started on August 23 and will run through August 30, including two international friendly matches against Colombia on August 28 and August 30.
This marks De La Fuente's fourth call up to the Mexico's U-17 side within the last eight months. At the start of this year, he played four matches for the group in the Torneo del Sol in Mexico, helping the team win the tournament final and secure a 2-0 shutout victory. In early February, De La Fuente earned consistent playing time in the Concacaf U-17 World Cup Qualifying matches with the U-17 group. De La Fuente started all four matches, recording 294 minutes while helping Mexico to a perfect record, outscoring its opponents 20-2.
At the end of July, De La Fuente signed his first professional contract with Colorado Rapids 2, becoming the ninth Rapids Academy product to sign with the second team. Since making his MLS NEXT Pro debut on June 6, De La Fuente has appeared in 11 matches for Rapids 2, earning nine starts and logging 800 minutes. The Colorado native broke into the starting lineup just three matches after his debut and has quickly become a leader on the team, earning the captain's armband for the past three matches. On Sunday, August 23, De La Fuente recorded the first goal and assist of his professional and Rapids 2 career.
