Colorado Rapids Academy midfielder Andre Romo selected for 2023 MLS NEXT All-Star Game presented by Allstate

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - Colorado Rapids Academy player Andre Romo has been selected for the 2023 MLS NEXT All-Star Game presented by Allstate, MLS NEXT announced today. Romo, a Rapids U-17 midfielder, will compete as a part of the 23-man roster representing the West on July 19 at the Naval Academy’s Glenn Warner Soccer Facility in Annapolis, MD.

MLS NEXT and Allstate will provide the players with a once-in-a-lifetime player experience during MLS All-Star Week, with a full slate of evening programming events and activities in advance of the match. The players will be fully integrated into MLS All-Star Week festivities, which include team training, the All-Star Skills Challenge presented by AT&T 5G on July 18 and the MLS All-Star Game on July 19. Each MLS NEXT All-Star team will also conduct their own training sessions leading up to the game on Wednesday morning. The match will be streamed live from MLS NEXT’s (@mlsnext) TikTok account with multiple access points in the app.

“We are very excited to see Andre Romo recognized by MLS for his performances in this year’s MLS NEXT competition,” said Chris Cartlidge, Rapids Academy Technical Director. “His selection to the All-Star Game will provide Andre with an incredible experience and an opportunity to compete with and against the best players from across MLS NEXT.”

“Andre has been a part of the 2006 Academy roster since its inception in 2018,” continued Cartlidge. “It is great to see his hard work and commitment recognized with this selection. We look forward to watching Andre take another step on his journey when he steps on the field to represent the club at the event.”

Romo joined the Colorado Rapids Academy as a U-12 player after spending a majority of his youth career with the Colorado Rapids Youth Soccer Club. During the 2022-23 season, Romo has appeared in 19 league matches, amassing a total of 3,250 minutes on the pitch for the Rapids U-17 Academy team. The 16-year-old midfielder scored four goals for the U-17s this season, helping the team to a first-place finish in the MLS NEXT Frontier Conference with a 10-8-6 record.
