COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - Colorado Rapids Academy product Rafael Aguirre has been called up to El Salvador’s U-17 National Team training camp as the team prepares for the 2023 Concacaf U-17 Championship being held in Guatemala from February 11-24. Aguirre will participate in the team camp in El Salvador from December 11-17 in his first-ever national team experience.

Aguirre first joined the Colorado Rapids Academy as a U-13 player from local youth side St. Vrain FC. The versatile 15-year-old, who currently plays with the Rapids’ U-15 team, can line up as either a fullback or midfielder and has been a key contributor for his side during the 2022-23 MLS NEXT season. Aguirre has appeared in 15 matches and has added two goals in his 1,075 minutes of action.

“The opportunity to join a national team camp in El Salvador with the top players from his age group will be an incredible experience and opportunity for Rafa to grow and develop both on and off the field,” said Chris Cartlidge, Academy Technical Director. “Rafa has had another positive season showing his versatility playing in both the fullback and wide midfield position for the Academy’s U-15 team. He has been conscientious and reliable in his defending and continues to be dynamic in the attacking third and has made a really important contribution to a successful fall season for the U-15 team.”
