The Colorado Rapids Academy has signed striker Peter Venegas from Chula Vista FC, the club announced today. Venegas will join the Rapids Academy’s U-15 side for the remainder of the 2022-23 MLS NEXT season.
“We are thrilled to invite Peter to the Rapids family,” said Chris Cartlidge, Rapids Academy Technical Director. “We are very grateful to Chula Vista Futbol Club and its club director Hector Diaz and the coaching staff for their work in developing Peter and supporting his transition to the Colorado Rapids. Peter is an exciting young player that has consistently shown that he can score goals. He has excellent instincts for the game and a really high level of technical ability that make him an impactful team player with his actions on and off the ball. We are very excited to get him integrated for the remainder of the 2022-23 season and look forward to supporting his continued development.”
The 15-year-old California native comes to the Rapids Academy after spending six seasons with Chula Vista FC. Venegas has been a standout among young players at his former club, playing in 23 matches this season for Chula Vista and scoring a whopping 18 goals for his team. The striker has attended one California Regional Talent ID Center for the U.S. Soccer Federation and has positioned himself as a valuable addition to the U-15’s roster this season.
Venegas has played in five matches so far for the Rapids Academy and scored a goal in his debut for the club against LA Galaxy’s Academy side. He also scored a goal in the team’s match versus Club Bolívar at the 2023 Generation adidas Cup and secured a brace in the team’s most recent game versus the San Jose Earthquakes Academy.
