COMMERCE CITY, Colo. – The Colorado Rapids announced today the club has called up Chris Aquino and Jonny De La Fuente from the club’s MLS NEXT Pro side on Short-Term Agreements. The pair will be available for selection for the Rapids’ MLS regular season match against the LA Galaxy on Saturday, September 26.
Aquino, 20, is receiving his third of four Short-Term Agreements for the 2026 MLS season. The midfielder joined Rapids 2 ahead of the 2026 season after spending the past two years with Tacoma Defiance. This year, Aquino made 21 appearances for Rapids 2, logging four goals and two assists over 770 minutes of play. Â
De La Fuente, 17, is receiving the first Short-Term Agreement of both the season and his career. The midfielder signed his first professional contract with Rapids 2 on July 30 of this year after spending the previous two years with Rapids Academy. Throughout the season, De La Fuente has started 12 of his 14 appearances for Rapids 2, logging 1,070 minutes while wearing the captain’s armband on multiple occasions. This week, he earned his fourth call up within the Mexican Youth National Team system with the U-17 group as they prepare for the FIFA U-17 World Cup in November.Â
Per the 2026 MLS Roster Rules and Regulations, a club may sign a player, aged 25 or younger during the league season, from its affiliate (MLS NEXT Pro) to a maximum of four Short-Term Agreements (up to four-day contracts) each season (maximum of 16 days). An individual player may be included on up to four MLS league season match rosters each season, however, that player may appear in no more than two MLS league season matches. An individual player may appear in any number of non-league games during the terms of his four Short-Term Agreements.Â
