Colorado Rapids learn potential Fourth Round matchups for 2013 Open Cup

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Wednesday, May 22, 2013) – The Colorado Rapids learned today its potential opponents for the team’s fourth round match in the 2013 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, should the Rapids win next Tuesday’s third round clash with Orlando City SC of the USL Professional Division. If the Rapids advance past Orlando, they will face either the winner of the third round match between Sporting Kansas City (MLS) and the Des Moines Menace (PDL).


Sporting Kansas City faces the Des Moines Menace on the same day the Rapids take on Orlando City, next Tuesday, May 28. The Rapids would either visit Sporting KC at 7:30 p.m. CT (6:30 p.m. MT) on June 12 at Sporting Park in Kansas City, or host Des Moines at 7:00 p.m. MT on June 12 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City.


Should the Rapids host a fourth round U.S. Open Cup match on Wednesday, June 12, tickets would go on sale at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29 on www.ColoradoRapids.com. The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, an annual knock-out tournament featuring soccer teams from all levels of American soccer (from amateur through MLS), is in its 100th year, making it the oldest continuously-running soccer competition in the United States.


This Saturday, the Rapids will host Chivas USA at 7:00 p.m. at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in MLS play, in a match presented by Western Union. Colorado is currently on a four match unbeaten run, and holds a record of 4-1-3 (W-L-T) in the last eight games.
