Colorado Rapids Sign Two-Time Liga MX Champion Goalkeeper William Yarbrough

Colorado Rapids Sign Two-Time Liga MX Champion Goalkeeper William Yarbrough -

The Colorado Rapids announced today the signing of goalkeeper William Yarbrough from Liga MX’s Club León on a one-year loan.

“One of our objectives over the offseason was to build a roster deep with talent and to foster competition all over the field and this signing further helps us achieve that,” said Pádraig Smith, Colorado Rapids Executive VP and General Manager. “The opportunity to bring in a player of Will’s quality doesn’t come around every day, so we’re excited to have him join our already strong goalkeeping group.”

Yarbrough joins the Rapids after spending his entire professional career in Mexico’s Liga MX with Club León. The 30-year-old goalkeeper made 193 appearances and recorded 48 shutouts for La Fiera (The Wild Beast), helping the club win two Liga MX titles during his eight years in Guanajuato.

Born in Aguascalientes, Mexico, to American parents, Yarbrough has made three appearances for the U.S. Men’s National Team, including a 2-0 friendly win over Mexico in March 2015.

Yarbrough will be officially presented to fans and media at an event held today, March 6, at 6:00 PM at Dairy Block (1821 Blake St., Suite 100) as part of the club’s week-long celebrations ahead of the Rapids’ home opener on Saturday. The event is free and open to the general public.

The Rapids host Orlando City SC on Saturday at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in their first home game of the season. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM MT.
