The Colorado Rapids announced today the signing of veteran defender Drew Moor to a one-year contract. The free agent returns to Colorado where he spent seven years with the Rapids and won the 2010 MLS Cup.
“Drew is someone who has meant so much to this club and we couldn’t be happier to welcome him home,” said Pádraig Smith, Colorado Rapids Executive Vice President & General Manager. “His championship-winning experience and familiarity playing for Robin [Fraser] will be a huge asset in our locker room, especially for our young group of players.”
“We are extremely pleased to have Drew join our team,” said Robin Fraser, Colorado Rapids Head Coach. “He’s a player who has been a mainstay in the league for so long and every team he’s been on has been successful. His leadership and championship-winning experience will be extremely important to us moving forward.”
Moor, 35, rejoins the Rapids after spending the past four seasons with Toronto FC. During his time with the Canadian side, Moor reached three MLS Cup finals, winning the 2017 MLS Cup along with the 2017 Supporters’ Shield and the 2017 Canadian Championship—the first time in league history an MLS club won “The Treble.” He won an additional two Canadian Championships (2016 & 2018) and was also part of the Toronto side that finished as runner-up of the 2018 Concacaf Champions League. In all, Moor made 90 appearances for Toronto, recording five goals and an assist during his four years with the Reds. Moor will be reuniting with Rapids Head Coach Robin Fraser, who served as Toronto’s assistant coach during Moor’s time in Canada.
Prior to joining Toronto as a free agent, Moor spent seven seasons with the Rapids from 2009 to 2015 and captained the club in his final three. The Dallas, Texas, native logged 16,786 minutes, netted 14 goals and added five assists across 188 appearances for the Rapids and helped the club win the 2010 MLS Cup. While with the Rapids, Moor set a league record for the most consecutive 90-minute matches played by a field player (68) and was named to the MLS All-Star team in 2015.
Moor was originally drafted by FC Dallas, sixth overall in the 2005 MLS SuperDraft and spent five seasons with the club. Prior to that, he began his collegiate career at Furman University before moving to Indiana University where he won back-to-back NCAA National Championships in 2003 and 2004.
