Colorado Rapids waive defender Alex Gersbach and midfielder Sidnei Tavares

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — The Colorado Rapids have exercised their offseason buyout on defender Alex Gersbach and have waived midfielder Sidnei Tavares, the club announced today.

Gersbach, 26, joined the Rapids ahead of the 2023 season from France’s Grenoble Foot 38. The left back made three regular season appearances for Colorado, registering 262 minutes during his lone season with the club. 

Tavares, 22, appeared in five regular-season matches with Colorado, registering 299 minutes since making his MLS debut on Aug, 23, 2023 on the road against LAFC. Prior to his arrival in Colorado, he registered 38 appearances and four assists across all competitions for the Dragões’ second team. Internationally, Tavares has represented Portugal at the U-18 and U-19 levels.
