Rapids training

A chill wind was blowing through Commerce City this Tuesday morning, with the Colorado Rapids players wrapped against the elements on what was a bitterly cold day.

Jackets and beanie hats were being put to good use, during a session which also experienced flurries of snow - a far cry from recent days.

Marlon Hairston was heavily involved in Tuesday's session, after sustaining a minor knee injury last Saturday.

The team return on Wednesday for one final training session, before leaving early on Thursday morning for Newark and what will, ultimately, be their first game of the MLS regular season.

While the Rapids were involved in an intrasquad scrimmage last weekend, the New York Red Bulls were suffering at the hands of the Vancouver Whitecaps, eventually going down 4-1 to the Canadian side.

Head Coach, Pablo Mastroeni, and team skipper, Drew Moor, both spoke with the media after training. Some of Moor's early thoughts can be heard above, while Mastroeni's take on his MLS coaching debut will be available online later in the week, along with a full preview.

Following sunshine and snow in Colorado, it appears the Rapids will have to contest with the Red Bulls in the rain on Saturday. The forecast for New Jersey is a drop of the wet stuff, and a high of 50f.

The Rapids return to Denver on Sunday, and will swiftly look to prepare for their opening home game, which is against the Portland Timbers on March 22, kick-off 4 p.m MT (TICKETS).
