Defender Danny Wilson was named to Major League Soccer’s Team of the Matchday bench on Monday following a two-goal contribution performance over the weekend.

Wilson assisted Lalas Abubakar’s 74th-minute header and sank a goal of his own in the Rapids’ rivalry matchup with Real Salt Lake on Saturday night.

The Scotsman’s head found the end of a free kick taken by Connor Ronan just outside the right of the eighteen in the 33rd minute to mark his first goal of the season.

“Danny is one of the more proficient defenders in the league with the ball,” said Head Coach Robin Fraser after the match. “And certainly one of his strengths for us is helping start attacks and that sort of thing. Another strength of his is his ability to head in set pieces and his size and all that, I thought that certainly showed up in those moments.

“We needed it, and again, the urgency of the moment was upon us and in these urgent moments people needed to stand up and Danny did well on both goals.”
