Colorado Rapids Soccer Club announced today that it has signed forward Dominique Badji to a multi-year contract extension. Currently in his third season with the Rapids, Badji leads the team in goals (nine) and assists (six).
“We’re pleased to be able to sign Dom for two more years,” said Rapids Sporting Director and Interim General Manager, Pádraig Smith. “Dom has quickly established himself as one of the most promising young players in MLS and we’re confident he will play a big role in our future.”
Badji signs a two-year extension in the midst of a career season. The six-foot forward has already set personal-highs in games, games started, minutes, goals and assists. In all, Badji has appeared in 72 games (52 starts) for the Rapids, registering 17 goals and 10 assists.
Since joining the League in 2015, Badji’s 17 goals for the Rapids are good for third in Major League Soccer for most regular season goals by players under the age of 25.
Badji, 24, was selected by Colorado in the fourth round (67th overall) of the 2015 MLS SuperDraft, before signing his first professional contract on March 3, three days before making his professional debut.
Prior to arriving in Colorado, Badji appeared in 69 games (64 starts) for Boston University from 2011-2014, tallying 22 goals and nine assists for the Terriers. As a senior, Badji was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year and to the NSCAA All-First Region Team after posting eight goals and four assists.
