Play-by-Play: Rapids Complete Second-Half Comeback, Top Loons 3-2

Tonight, the Rapids take on Minnesota United FC in a rematch of the first round of the 2020 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs. The Rapids are looking to bring their best form in front of their home fans and earn their first win of the season at DICK'S Sporting Goods Park. 1' - Aaaaand we're off!

2' - Yarbrough with a big save early on in the game. Minnesota split the defense and the shot from just north of the penalty spot is saved by the Rapids' 'keeper.

6' - Minnesota is pressing hard to start this game. MNUFC is the only team without a point through their first three games, and they clearly have the goal of righting the ship tonight. They have two shots and two corner kicks early on.

9' - Barrios comes very close to netting his first Rapids goal. Rubio carries the ball in from the wing into the middle of the field, hits Acosta near the top of the box, and finds Barrios on the left-hand side. His shot goes between two Minnesota defenders and hits the far post.

13' - Barrios is putting in quality effort on both sides of the field. He comes back on defense, wins the ball, and proceeds to lead the charge on a speedy transition. He and Vines are working well together along the left-hand side once again.

17' - GOAL - Emanuel Reynoso sinks a flawless free-kick into the upper 90 from about 25 yards out. Minnesota leads 1-0.

23' - Namli remains down following a collision. He gingerly comes back on the field.

24' - GOAL - It appears Namli's injury is worse than he originally hoped when he reentered the game. He goes back down following a challenge at midfield, and Minnesota gains possession. They carry the ball down the field, split the Rapids defense with a square pass to Hassani Dotson who proceeds to sink his shot. Minnesota up 2-0.

27' - SUBSTITUTION - Namli exits the match, and Homegrown Cole Bassett enters the game.

30' - Shinyashiki and Barrios switch sides of the field, with Shinyashiki now on the left wing and Barrios on the right.

38' - In the Rapids' last home match, a poor run of form over the span of 12 minutes cost them the contest. A big priority for the team has been relaxing after letting in a goal and making sure they can still return to playing their game. Colorado appears to have settled down following a difficult swing in momentum, with Barrios' aggressive, speedy play down the wing now back on display.

45' + 2' - Barrios' has the Rapids on the verge of finding the back of the net with another quality cross. His efforts are met by cheers from the home fans.

45' + 3' - The rain pours down, and the whistle blows for the end of the half.

46' - And we're back.

53' - The Rapids with an almost dangerous chance. Shinyashiki plays Rubio in the middle, who does a good job of turning on his marks and playing a through ball the Barrios, but Minnesota intercepts. The crowd clamors for a foul.

54' - The post strikes again! This time it's Bassett's volley that rockets off the post. The Rapids are driving toward their supporter's section now, and the energy they are providing is palpable.

57' - GOAL - You could feel it coming, and Acosta delivers. The ball bounces back and forth between the teams before landing at the feet of Acosta, who hits a left-footed volley first-time from 20 yards out. The Rapids' comeback begins as they close the gap to 2-1.

58' - SUBSTITUTION - Jonathan Lewis replaces Shinyashiki; Fresh legs on offense as Colorado looks to keep the momentum rolling.

62' - Minnesota aims one for the scoreboard in what is their first attempt in the Rapids defensive end in some time.

70' - Bassett plays a nice curving cross into Rubio, but his run and subsequent header are offside. Solid play so far from Bassett, on the cross and the effort thus far tonight.

71' - GOAL - That Homegrown connection. Vines plays a cross in and Minnesota's 'keeper comes out but bobbles the save, and Bassett is there to finish it. Rapids level, 2-2.

79' - The Rapids are in the driver's seat now. They have eight shots over the last 35 minutes and a solid handle on possession.

81' - Chase Gasper is given a yellow for a very late slide tackle on Bassett. Free kick upcoming about 40 yards out from goal.

82' - GOAL - The free kick kings are at it again. Price does what he does best with a bending restart that finds the head of Wilson, who fires it home. Rapids with their first lead of the game, 3-2.

86' - What a beautiful almost goal. Barrios plays in a cross that's headed into the net by Lewis, but he is offside.

87' - SUBSTITUTION - Drew Moor replaces Barrios. Barrios' unrelenting effort didn't go unnoticed by the fans, who give him an ovation as he exits the field.

90' + 3' - The Rapids have only played in front of their home fans once in the last 14 months, and you can tell that this crowd is ready for a win from their hometown team. Price face-up against a cross and completes a successful slide tackle, and the crowd goes wild.

90' + 5' - That's the final whistle!
