For a third successive game, the Rapids’ USL affiliate, Charlotte Independence, secured a 1-1 tie as they returned home with a point from their encounter at Richmond Kickers on Saturday.

Andrew Dykstraand Sam Vines both played the entire game for Charlotte, who dropped a place in the Eastern Conference standings to fifth.

Next up for the Independence is a return home to host Tampa Bay Rowdies on Wednesday.

Sam Hamilton was involved in a 1-0 home win for Colorado Springs Switchbacks on Saturday, with the decisive goal coming four minutes from time against Fresno FC.

That win - in front of a capacity crowd of 5,000 - keeps the Switchbacks in eighth in the Western Conference, and the last remaining playoff place. They play the second of three successive home games this Saturday, when San Antonio FC are the visitors.

Phoenix Rising slipped from the summit of the Western Conference after being held 0-0 at second-from-bottom Rio Grande Valley FC. Phoenix, though, have now gone four games without conceding, with Rapids’ on-loan defender Mike da Fonte playing his part. They are home to Orange County SC on Friday.
