Bassett & Vines Named Among the Best Young Players Once Again
Can you name a better pair of Homegrowns in MLS than Cole Bassett and Sam Vines? Let us know because we have yet to find them. Last Saturday, both Vines and Bassett got on the scoresheet in the Rapids’ 3-1 win over the Dynamo. Following their performances, both players earned a spot on the MLS Top Young Player Performances of the Week. The Rapids were the only team with two players on the list.
In scoring his 10th goal this weekend, Bassett became the all-time leader in MLS goals scored by a Rapids Homegrown. Let’s relive our favorite of Cole’s Goals:
Road Warriors
No other team has been as good on the road as the Rapids under head coach Robin Fraser. Since Fraser’s first game at the helm on Aug. 31, 2019, Colorado is 8-5-2 (W-L-D) away from home, which is the best road record in MLS in that span. The Rapids’ eight wins and 1.73 points per game are both the best in MLS in that time. Colorado is one of two teams in MLS (Philadelphia) to post two clean sheets in both of their road matches this season. Let's see what Saturday has in store, shall we?
Kellyn Acosta Earns Another USMNT Call
Thursday morning, USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter announced his 27-man squad for training camp ahead of a major friendly against Switzerland on May 30. Switzerland, ranked No. 13 in the world, will be only the sixth top-20 opponent Team USA has faced in the last two years. Acosta is one of six MLS players to be named to the roster. The group is set to begin reporting in St. Gallen, Switzerland, on May 23, following the Rapids’ match at LAFC on Saturday. For more information, click here.

Offense Continues to Click
The Colorado Rapids have scored seven goals during their current three-game winning streak, including four from open play and three from set pieces. Their 3-1 win against Houston over the weekend marked the first time since September 2019 that the Rapids scored three goals in consecutive matches and adds to the club’s prolific production over the past few seasons. Since the beginning of 2019, Colorado is the fourth-highest scoring team in MLS, averaging 1.72 goals per game.
Colorado’s four goals from set pieces are the third-most in MLS and the most in the Western Conference this season. The Rapids have scored on 32 set pieces since the beginning of 2019, by far the most in MLS (D.C. United is second with 24).
