O'Neill and Serna on show as U-23s secure third spot in Toulon

USA U23s starting XI vs. England Toulon

Shane O'Neill and Dillon Serna helped the USA U-23s to a 2-1 win over England on Sunday, in the third-place playoff at the ten-team Toulon Tournament in France. Third place matched the USA's best-ever finish at this prestigious event.

Victory came courtesy of two penalty kicks, converted by Alonso Hernandez after just seven minutes, and then Benji Joya - who spent time with the Rapids during preseason - midway through the second half. USA's goals came either side of an England response from Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Kortney Hause.

Serna started three of the USA's five games in France, while coming off the bench in the other two. O'Neill played every minute of the first three group games. The fourth and final group match, against Qatar, was the first game that O'Neill had missed for the U-23s this year.

Both players are due to return to the Rapids in time for the visit of Colorado Springs Switchbacks (June 16, U.S. Open Cup) and FC Dallas (June 19). For tickets to those matches, click HERE.
