The Colorado Rapids (6-10-1, 19 pts., 13th West) return home for a match against Austin FC (4-8-5, 17 pts., 14th West) on Saturday, August 1. Kickoff at DICK’S Sporting Goods Park is set for 7:30 p.m. MT, with coverage available on Apple TV, Altitude Sports Radio, Tico Sports Spanish Radio, ColoradoRapids.com, and the Colorado Rapids app.Â
The match marks the first of three consecutive at DICK’S Sporting Goods Park for the Rapids. Following Saturday, Colorado will have a week off before hosting Sporting KC on August 15 and LAFC on August 19.Â
The Rapids are entering this contest following a back-and-forth week in their return to MLS play following the FIFA World Cup break. The club started off strong, posting a thrilling 1-0 win against San Diego FC last Wednesday thanks to a stoppage time winner from debutant Loïc Williams. Colorado then quickly switched their focus to a Saturday match when they traveled to Missouri for a matchup with St. Louis CITY SC. Despite receiving a red card early, the Rapids defended well for a majority of the match but were unable to salvage a point after the hosts scored the game-winning goal in the final minutes of the match.Â
Fans will get the opportunity to welcome back defender Lucas Herrington, who just represented Colorado in the MLS All-Star Game this past Wednesday in Charlotte. Alongside the league’s best, Herrington helped his side earn a 4-3 victory against the Liga MX All-Stars. The 18-year-old started the match, making him the fourth youngest player to ever start for the MLS in the annual game’s history. This accolade adds to the long list of accomplishments for the Australian over the past month.Â
On the other end of this matchup is an Austin FC side that is looking to find their footing for the remainder of the MLS season. The club has struggled as of late, securing only three points in their last five matches. Austin has seen most of their troubles come on the road this season, posting a 0-6-3 record away from home up to this point in the year.
