Preview | Rapids continue homestand with matchup against Sporting KC

The Colorado Rapids (7-10-1, 22 pts., 11th West) are set to host Sporting KC (4-12-2, 14 pts., 15th West) on Saturday, August 15. Kickoff at DICK’S Sporting Goods Park is set for 7:30 p.m. MT, with coverage available on Apple TV, Altitude Sports Radio, ColoradoRapids.com, and the Colorado Rapids app. 

Colorado fans will have the opportunity to see the Rapids at home yet again this Saturday, with the club hosting their second of three home matches in a row. The Burgundy Boys will look to continue their success at DSGP, with the club having yet to concede a goal in their two home matches since the season resumed following the FIFA World Cup Break. 

Fans are encouraged to be in their seats during the opening procession, as the club will be holding a pregame ceremony for captain Keegan Rosenberry, who made his 200th MLS regular season appearance as a member of the Rapids after subbing on against Austin FC. The defender became just the third player in club history to achieve the feat, only behind Drew Moor (210) Pablo Mastroeni (225). 

The Rapids most recent contest came back on August 1, when the club hosted Austin FC in Commerce City. The two sides played each other tough for just about the entire match, but Colorado would be the ones to claim all three points after Rafael Navarro sunk a penalty kick in stoppage time to seal the victory. The victory marked back-to-back clean sheets at home and was the fifth shutout for the Rapids in ten matches at DICK’S Sporting Goods Park this season across all competitions. 

This Saturday, fans will have the opportunity to welcome new signing Youssef Maziz to Colorado, who has officially received his P-1 Visa and will be available for selection. The midfielder joined the Rapids after spending the past three seasons with Oud-Heverlee Leuven in Belgium’s first division. There, Maziz made 114 appearances across all competitions, logging 15 goals and 16 assists. 

On the other end of this matchup is a Sporting Kansas City side that will be looking to string together positive results as they currently sit last in the Western Conference at 15th place. In their four matches since returning to play, the club has posted a 1-4 record with a –6 goal differential.  

Colorado has their hopes set on repeating their first matchup against SKC this season, a 4-1 victory on the road at Sporting Park back in March. Highlighting the match was Designated Player Paxten Aaronson, who recorded his first career brace in the contest. Midfielder Wayne Frederick also scored in the match, logging the first goal of his MLS career.
