The Colorado Rapids (11-13-5, 38 pts., 9th West) travel to the Pacific Northwest for a key matchup against the Portland Timbers (9-14-6, 33 pts., 10th West) on Saturday, October 17. Kickoff at Providence Park is set for 8:30 p.m. MT with coverage available on Apple TV, Altitude Sports Radio, the Colorado Rapids app, and ColoradoRapids.com.

With only five games remaining in the MLS regular season, every point proves to be crucial as the Western Conference playoff picture starts to solidify. The Rapids currently sit in ninth place in the conference, putting them in the Wild Card game if the season were to end today. Saturday’s matchup holds major implications for the playoffs, with Portland only five points behind Colorado as the next closest team in the standings.

The Rapids are entering the match following a pair of draws over the last week. The club’s most recent contest came on Wednesday, where they fought to a 2-2 draw against Minnesota United FC at home. Homegrown forward Darren Yapi recorded his fourth goal of the season in the match and was assisted by Paxten Aaronson, who continued his impressive form as of late. The Designated Player recorded his club-leading 10th assist of the season and his seventh goal contribution in his last six MLS appearances (3g, 4a). The second goal of the night came from forward Georgi Minoungou, who recorded his first MLS goal as a member of the Rapids and his second across all competitions this year. Also of note was Colorado extending their home unbeaten streak to nine matches with a 6-0-3 record in that span.

Portland will be looking to get back to their winning ways, with the club not having won a match in their last six attempts with a 0-4-2 record. Despite their recent record, the club has seen most of their success this season come at home as they hold a 7-4-3 record at Providence Park so far this season.

These two sides already faced off once this season, but Saturday’s match will mark much different circumstances than their first matchup back in February. Colorado won the match 2-0 thanks to goals from Hamzat Ojediran and Lucas Herrington. Ojediran highlighted the match with a rocket of a shot from 30 yards out to secure the victory for Colorado in what was their 2026 home opener.
