COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — Rapids Academy midfielder Alex Hernández has been called up to the Mexican U-16 Youth National Team for their upcoming appearance in the Mondial Football Montaigu tournament in France. The call up marks his second within the Mexican Youth National Team system, with his first coming in May of 2025 with the U-15 side.
The midfielder will join the U-16 group on March 27 in France for their upcoming slate of matches throughout the tournament. While at the tournament, Mexico will take on Portugal, Peru, Japan, and a fourth match that will be determined depending on the group’s results.
Hernández, 16, joined the Colorado Rapids Futures Program in 2022 from local youth side ALBION SC Denver. Over the course of the Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 seasons in MLS NEXT with Rapids Academy, the midfielder has logged a total of 1,358 minutes across multiple age groups. He has spent a majority of his time with the U-16 group, but has played up with the U-18s on multiple occasions.
