COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — The Colorado Rapids announced today that Rapids Academy midfielder Jonathan De La Fuente was named to the Mexican U-17 Youth National Team ahead of their upcoming Concacaf qualifying matches for the FIFA U-17 World Cup. De La Fuente will also participate in a training camp in Mexico City, Mexico, prior to their slate of four matches.

The U-17 group will report to training camp in Mexico City before traveling to Trinidad and Tobago for their qualifying matches on February 3.

De La Fuente and his nation will match up against Sint Maartin on February 5. The group will then play Saint Marten on February 7, followed by a match against Barbados on February 9. Their qualifiers will round out on February 12 when they face Trinidad and Tobago. All matches will be played at Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.

The selection marks De La Fuente’s third international call up in the last three months after two standout years within the Colorado Rapids Academy pathway. Earlier this month, the midfielder participated in the Torneo del Sol with the U-17 group, where he helped the side make their way to the tournament final.

De La Fuente is a key member of the Rapids Academy’s 2009 age group and captained the U-18 side on multiple occasions, leading the team in minutes played this past season.
