Rapids Going Green: Everything You Need to Know

Greener Goals Week

In a collaborative effort to combine sport and service, promote goodwill within MLS markets and improve lives and communities at the grassroots level, the Colorado Rapids and MLS WORKS will conduct their annual League-wide Greener Goals Week of Service starting April 18.

Greener Goals helps to identify ways to reduce the Major League Soccer’s greenhouse gas (GHG) footprint and raise awareness about environmental issues throughout the soccer community. The greening of our game will encourage MLS clubs, players, partners and fans to create a cleaner, healthier environment.

During Greener Goals week, the Rapids staff will partner with the City & County of Denver and The Greenway Foundation to volunteer their time and give back to the local communities from April 18 to April 30.

Projects for the 2022 season include planting trees, painting and picking up trash in local Denver parks such as Willow Basin Park, Lowry Park and Commons Park to further beautify and preserve the community.

The Rapids will also host two theme nights in celebration of creating a greener environment in the month of April.

Sustainability Night presented by adidas

To promote sustainability in our Colorado Rapids community, adidas will host their official adidas Give Back Clothing Drive on April 23 when the Burgundy Boys take on MLS newcomer, Charlotte FC.

Fans can drop off gently-used clothing to the adidas tent posted between Gates E and F at DICK'S Sporting Goods Park during the game and scan a QR code for an automatic entry for the chance to win a pair of Terrex hiking boots, a signed Class 5 jersey, and signed adidas match ball. Only two fans will be awarded a prize package each, so make sure to bring your donations on gameday!

Colorado Fourteeners Initiative x Sustainability Night

In 2021, the Rapids launched the Class 5 kit in collaboration with the Colorado Fourteeners Initiative, a local nonprofit that protects and preserves the natural integrity of Colorado’s “fourteeners”—mountain peaks above 14,000 feet. To commemorate Earth Day (April 22) this year, the Rapids have dubbed the April 23 matchup with Charlotte FC as Sustainability Night, when Robin Fraser's squad will trade out their iconic burgundy jerseys for Class 5 kits.

Sustainability Night tickets are available for $14, with $4 donated to CFI. Rapids fans can also support CFI at the game by checking out the custom C5 posters and jersey patches in Section 129, picking up a refreshing green Coors beer from Eighteen76 and sporting their own Class 5 jerseys in the stands.

Gameday Experience

And what better time to launch the Rapids new Burgundy Bike Lot than Sustainability Night! To reduce emissions and promote a cleaner planet for all, the Rapids are introducing a free bike lot for local fans on gamedays in 2022. Starting April 23, the Burgundy Bike Lot will be available for fans in the Commerce City area to park and lock their bikes while they watch the Rapids play in DICK'S Sporting Goods Park.

Rapids fans can also support a healthy Colorado environment while enjoying the game by responsibly disposing of all recyclables used. At the 70th minute of the match ushers will make their way through the stands to collect empty recyclable cans and cups.

Clean Colorado Night

To promote the upcoming Air Quality Awareness Week, which spans from May 4 -8, the Rapids have also partnered with Colorado Department of Health and Environment (CDPHE) and the Air Pollution Control Division of Colorado during Greener Goals week and will host Clean Colorado Night on April 30 when the Portland Timbers visit DICK’S Sporting Goods Park.

Local fans are encouraged to continue to take advantage of the Burgundy Bike Lot on Clean Colorado Night to further cut down greenhouse gas emission levels! Pedal to the stadium, park and lock your bike up with your fellow Rapids fans, and head inside to enjoy the game!
