Rapids open Tucson tournament against the Fire

Arizona resort

There has been little time for the Colorado Rapids to dwell on Sunday's 2-1 loss to Chivas USA in Las Vegas, as they enjoyed the briefest of spells back home before departing for the Desert Diamond Cup in Tucson, Arizona.

The Rapids are one of six teams competing in the tournament, alongside hosts FC Tucson, as well as MLS rivals, Real Salt Lake, New England Revolution, Chivas USA and today's opponents, the Chicago Fire.

In previous preseason games, the Rapids coaching staff have tinkered with the line-up, fielding two different outfield teams, mixing regulars with trialists, youngsters with the experienced campaigners.

But, with less than four weeks to go until the opening game of the MLS regular season, now is the time when the starting XI may take on a more familiar look.

The Rapids tackle Chicago Fire at the North Stadium of the Kino Sports Complex, kick-off 3.30pm MT. They then take on RSL this coming Saturday, again with a 3.30pm start, before facing Chivas USA next Wednesday (February 26).

A fourth and final fixture, opposition and kick-off time to be determined, will wrap up their preseason tour to Tucson on Saturday, March 1. The first game of the MLS season is at New York Red Bulls on Saturday, March 15.
